My aim was to visit San Marino, one of the smallest countries in the world, but since I was staying for the weekend at a nearby town, I also found the time to visit Bologna and the two fascinating medieval villages of San Leo and Dozza, both within easy driving distance from San Marino.
Among the rich and famous!
The land of the rich and famous, my 38th country, left me in awe at both the beauty and grandeur of the place. You don’t need a car to visit Monaco – just walk and plan a big half day, as I did.
It’s not just about the fast cars or a rich lifestyle!
The French Riviera is not just about life in the fast lane. It has so much more to offer if you step outside your comfort zone!
What a pleasant surprise!
The aim of my 3-day trip to the southeast of France was always going to be Monaco. However, since I had to drive right past Nice, I could not refuse the tantalising ‘invitation’ to make a quick stopover here.
Strike action doesn’t ruin my plans!
A general strike against pension reforms in France led to an almost two-hour delay to my flight to Marseille in France. As usual, I rented a car, but to make matters worse and delay my plans even further, it took me some time to find the car hire office. Eventually, I did, and after settling the paperwork, I drove straight to the Basilica of Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde.
My best cappuccino ever!
I’ve been to Skopje in North Macedonia twelve times and most times hired a car from the airport. It had always been my intention to ‘hop into’ nearby Kosovo by car for a quick visit. My research indicated that one of the best places in the entire world to have a cappuccino is in Kosovo’s capital Pristina. So I was eager to see if this was really true.
Christmas Markets and Castles
It was never actually my aim to combine the two, much less to specifically visit Luxembourg for either of these! It was in fact by sheer coincidence that I happened to book a few days here just a couple of weeks before Christmas.
Jurassic Park but without the dinosaurs!
It was never my intention to visit The Azores, a group of desolate islands out in the Atlantic Ocean. But fate was to decide otherwise!
Why do I travel?
I love to travel because it keeps me living and experiencing this wonderful world. I love to travel because every turn makes a new memory. I love to travel because it makes me appreciate my blessings, especially the gift of health. I love to travel because it always changes my perspective. I love to travel because it allows me to see life…
