Saint-Émilion is a medieval wine-village located a 45-minute drive away from the city Bordeaux in France. Some of the best wines in the world are produced in Saint-Émilion and it’s one of the largest wine regions in Bordeaux. But even if you don’t consider yourself a wine connoisseur you should put Saint-Émilion at the top of your bucket list for France.
Exquisite architecture, fresh seafood, a vibrant city with a historic core, and some of the best wine in the world—in a nutshell, this is Bordeaux, France. Even better, the whole city is highly walkable, with pedestrian-only areas and welcoming squares. In Tunisia’s capital, the term “living history” really does apply. Here, periods of conquest, trade and independence have woven into the city’s fabric and culture a rich and complex flavour that becomes apparent wherever you explore. Despite that, my boyfriend and I decided to stay in nearby Sidi Bou Said, both for logistical reasons as well as aesthetical ones; we wanted a quick access by car to other parts of the country and we also wanted to spend a couple of nights in this beautiful town that bears resemblance to the island of Santorini.
Tunisia is perhaps most famous for its wide array of historical attractions, including the ancient city of Carthage in Tunis, and the huge Amphitheatre of El Jem near Sousse, which show off the influences of various civilizations that have settled in the country over the years. Sun-seekers can also enjoy its sea and gorgeous Mediterranean beaches.
